Fique is one of the most distinctive natural fibers of South America. Extracted from the leaves of the fique plant, a type of agave, the fiber has been processed for centuries in the Colombian Andes. It was long used primarily for ropes, bags, and durable everyday products — today it also impresses with its unique texture and subtle elegance in interior design.

The fiber has a natural liveliness and a fine, sisal-like sheen. At the same time, Fiqué feels softer and more textile than many classic hard fibers. This creates a warm, artisanal materiality with special depth in the room.

Ruckstuhl has been working for about ten years with a cooperative near San Gil in the Colombian Andes. The rugs are traditionally knitted or crocheted there by hand—in a home-based work model that especially enables women and single mothers to have flexible employment. From the cultivation of the plant to processing, the entire value chain remains locally anchored.

Fiqué appears calm, authentic, and at the same time unusual. The textile structure improves acoustics, creates warmth on hard floors, and gives rooms a subtle, handcrafted depth.
