Looking back at Zurich Design Weeks 2025
Mirrors are recurring motifs in the work of Trix & Robert Haussmann. They multiply spaces, shift perspectives, and make the boundary between surface and depth uncertain.
For Zurich Design Weeks 2025, Bureau Hindermann adopted this principle and transformed the Soeder store in Zurich’s main railway station into a hall of mirrors for Ruckstuhl.

Under the title “WIEDER SPIEGELN”, the new Trix & Robert Haussmann Collection by Ruckstuhl was presented there for the first time.

A room of mirrors

Already from the station concourse, the view led through a doorway to a column fragment from the “Lehrstück” series by Trix and Robert Haussmann. Reflective surfaces multiplied its shape and transformed the object into a spatial figure.

Inside, eight round mirrors formed a circle around STRIPE, a design by the Haussmanns from the 1980s. Laid out on a plinth, the black-and-white motif unfolded its perspectival effect. The mirrors took up the interplay of illusion and repetition, multiplied the rug, and at the same time incorporated the historic architecture of the main station into the staging.

Anyone who stood in the centre or sat on the rug became part of this image.

Rediscover, rethink

“REFLECT AGAIN” accompanied the return of designs that had existed for decades only in archives, drawings, and historical photographs.

The Trix & Robert Haussmann Collection by Ruckstuhl was created in collaboration with EDITION-H and through personal exchange with Trix Haussmann. Historical designs were reread and brought into the present as rugs.

This story continued behind the Hall of Mirrors as well: with the Spacegrid Edition 2025, a large-format tapestry with mirror inlays, Bureau Hindermann reinterpreted a 1986 Haussmann design for EDITION-H.

The installation thus connected original and reinterpretation, rug and architecture, historical reference and contemporary design.

Two awards for WIEDER SPIEGELN

One year later, the installation received two awards.

WIEDER SPIEGELN received the iF Design Award 2026 in the Interior Architecture discipline, Trade Fairs / Exhibitions category.

At the XAVER Award 2026 the project received silver in the «Best Efficiency Project» category - a category for projects that achieve a distinctive spatial and communicative impact through the targeted use of resources.

Both awards recognize a project that existed for only a few days yet tells a longer story: that of Trix and Robert Haussmann, of mirrors and illusions - and of designs that, decades later, once again find a space.
