THE OMNIA
“Omnia” is Latin and stands for the whole, the all-encompassing. In the hotel opened in Zermatt in summer 2006, guests should feel as comfortable as if they were at home. The small but very fine house offers exclusive interior design, a magnificent view of the Valais Alps, and a comprehensive wellness program.
Design and Architecture: The Omnia is the contemporary interpretation of the classic mountain lodge. Here in the Swiss Alps, New York architect Ali Tayar harmonizes the originally American lodge concept with its European surroundings. The dialogue between these two cultures was the starting point for the interior design: while the materials and craftsmanship refer to the tradition of Valais, the interior construction and furnishings are inspired by the “warm, handcrafted” aesthetic of American modernism.
At The Omnia, this era in 20th-century design is represented by a group of designers who, with their European roots, strongly influenced American design: Mies van der Rohe, Raymond Loewy, Vladimir Kagan, and Eero Saarinen. The USM furniture systems—recognized as design classics in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York—complement this selection. However, the majority of the interior furnishings are custom-made, designed by Tayar to meet the requirements of the mountain lodge.
This subtle interplay between design classics and custom-made pieces reflects the fundamental idea of the mountain lodge—The Omnia is the fusion of various elements and influences into a harmonious whole.

The timeless design as well as the natural materials and colors perfectly match the rugs from Ruckstuhl. They speak the same design language and harmonize with the carefully selected furniture. Anthracite-colored custom-fit rugs made of new wool felt quality FELTRO BASIC were used in the rooms. This felt creates a cozy atmosphere without appearing lush. The corridors are covered with the - also anthracite-colored - coconut brush PORTA. On the one hand, a surprise - who expects a brush in the corridor? - on the other hand, a robust floor covering that can withstand dirt well. The TRAP rug, made of new wool and hair yarn with a subtle texture, was integrated into the parquet floor in the restaurant.
