Roberto Capucci Museum (Villa Bardini)

Exclusively in Florence, the renovated Renaissance Villa Bardini will soon house the museum dedicated to the life’s work of the Italian fashion designer Roberto Capucci.

Roberto Capucci [*1929] is synonymous with the prodigy of 1950, representing internationally unmatched Italian fashion design of femininity, with spectacular creativity and excellent craftsmanship. He is known for phantasmagorias of color and extravagant shapes, breathtaking stage creations, and exclusive fabrics, most of which are specially made, unique for the one and only garment to be worn. Capucci’s creations move from styling to art, becoming ‘the art of clothing,’ ‘architectural fashion design,’ ‘textile sculptures,’ ‘works of art,’ with individual pieces housed in the world’s most famous art museums. Roberto Capucci personally receives enthusiastic compliments from princesses and first ladies, prima donnas and opera singers, directors and fashion producers alike, including Jacqueline Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Gloria Swanson, and Rita Levi Montalcini when she received her Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1986. Capucci’s dresses are said to give the wearer a magical aura; each dress takes him three to five months to create.

The legend surrounding Roberto Capucci is great, tracing his path from Rome with his own studio, through six years in Paris, and back to Rome in 1968. He founded a foundation early on, which has been collecting his works since 1951. In 2007, these works found a permanent home in the Florentine Villa Bardini, one of the most exclusive addresses in Florence, located on the Costa San Giorgio hill, with a breathtaking view over Florence and the Ponte Vecchio.
