Administration building DETEC, Ittigen/Switzerland

The federal administration centre on Mühlestrasse in Ittigen has housed various offices of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) since 2006. In two stages, the Confederation is expanding this site between Worble and Wald by 900 workplaces. The existing development pattern will be continued with two long buildings facing in the same direction. The result is a pulsating campus with rhythmically staggered plazas and alleyways.

The buildings are designed in such a way that they take up and interpret the language of the existing buildings. The building structure of the timber/concrete hybrid building with load-bearing timber beams and timber columns is based on a regular axial grid. This generates a polyvalent flexibility of use in the new buildings with individually subdividable office units. The principle of sustainability is implemented in the areas of society, economy and environment. With a primary energy requirement that is within the MINERGIE-P specifications, the environmental impact can be reduced. The share of renewable energy in this project is 100%. The project was checked and certified in a pilot phase according to the requirements of the "Standard Sustainable Building Switzerland" (SNBS).

The first building could be completed in summer 2020.
