Pure new wool

The hard-wearing allrounder among textile fibers

Along with cotton, wool is the oldest and most tried and tested natural textile fiber in the world. Its history can be shown to go back for more than 5000 years. Ruckstuhl’s virgin wool comes for the most part from New Zealand, South Africa and Great Britain, and is mixed in the most suitable way depending on the application. Wool is elastic, exceptionally dirt resistant and provides a balanced indoor climate. It can absorb up to 30% of its intrinsic weight in moisture, returning it to the atmosphere by evaporation when the air is dry. The spinning technique practiced in Europe involves a high number of revolutions. This makes Ruckstuhl’s woolen fibers hard-wearing, long-lasting and in certain qualities suitable for the contract sector. It has low-pressure sensitivity (based on the memory effect), and is also characterized by its high insulating properties, low inflammability without any additional treatment and friendliness to the skin.

Facts and figures

  • Pure new wool means that the wool fibers have been shorn from the living sheep and processed for the first time
  • Ruckstuhl's pure new wool is free of mulesing
  • Exclusive blends with hard-wearing qualities are used for Ruckstuhl
  • A merino sheep produces approx. 9,000 km of wool hair per year and this at a speed of 1027 meters per hour
  • The hair of 5 merino sheep strung together can surround the whole earth

Advantages

  • Wool is very resilient and resistant to pressure.
  • Wool is remarkably dirt-repellent.
  • Wool is unsurpassed as an insulator.
  • Wool is flame-retardant.
  • Wool can be considered as a free room humidifier because it absorbs large amounts of water when humidity is high, but releases the moisture when the air is dry.
