Expertise

An ancient craft that moves with the times.

The art of weaving is one of the fundamentals of our civilisation and cultural development. As carpet manufacturers with a long tradition, we continue to find ourselves in this ancient cultural stream, though of course as individuals working for a 21th-century company. Carpets are among the oldest cultural achievements of mankind: originally invented as a form of protection against cold and wind, carpets now enable us to create harmonious modern living space for ourselves. With our products, we simultaneously promote a heightened awareness of aesthetics and nature, as well as a fresh conception of life based on the genuineness and beauty of our carpets.

Sourcing of natural fibers

We attach a great deal of importance to dialogue and co-operation with our producers of natural fibres, and our suppliers and customers, since we are anxious to understand and satisfy their needs and wishes.

The concept “just in time” is not applicable when trying to acquire a steady supply of natural fibers. Nature’s rhythms are difficult to forecast. One must take into account that bad harvests can be caused by drought, flood and sudden political changes. Nevertheless, it is necessary to have a regular supply of superior raw material, and Ruckstuhl has developed a flexible organization that is able to supply the mills with adequate supplies of raw materials while considering nature’s cycles.

Weaving craftmanship

Ruckstuhl has been celebrating the art of weaving with the highest quality since 1881. We use shuttle and gripper looms for weaving. The basic principle of weaving has been the same since time immemorial: A fabric is made from at least 2 thread systems.

With the shuttle loom, the loom with the weft yarn is shot back and forth between the upper and lower warp at great speed. We are very proud of the "Machine 21" - it has been reliably in service since 1968 and is probably one of the oldest looms still in operation in Europe today. We use it to produce the Porta entrance carpet.

In the gripper loom, two grippers meet in the middle and hand over the weft yarn. We produce four meter wide wool, coir and sisal carpets on gripper looms.

Hi-Tech

State-of-the-art robot technology or handwork is used for customized rugs. In tufting, which only appeared in the middle of the 20th century, the pile yarn is needled into a carrier fabric. This process makes it possible to produce a large number of woolen carpets, as loop and velor, or a combination of both in large color palettes to customer size in the desired shape. On the basis of vectorized files, we manufacture entire carpet images, patterns or graphics in textle Works of art.

We also use latest precision technology to cut our carpets: thanks to a CAD-supported cutting machine, we can implement special cuts with pinpoint accuracy.

Quality

Valuable things do not multiply through quantity, but through quality. In order to be able to continuously develop the valuable knowledge in dealing with natural materials, Ruckstuhl has developed a control method that specifically takes into account the special characteristics of natural fibers.

Visual controls alternate with automated production monitoring. Ruckstuhl carpets are permanently tested for their high durability. These strict controls create the prerequisites for a unique portfolio that offers everything from light carpets for living areas to extremely hard-wearing carpets suitable for use with castors for offices, public buildings, museums, etc. The long service life in public areas has also proven itself time and again in practice.

The small difference

Ruckstuhl has been processing natural fibers since the very beginning. The experience gained during this period is correspondingly great. Basically, only first-class yarns are used at Ruckstuhl, which are subject to constant quality controls. In production, the heaviest looms, most of which were specially designed for Ruckstuhl, ensure optimum weaving density and weft accuracy. This elaborate processing technique creates the compact and dense structure of the carpet as well as the very high operating weight.

In addition to the harmonious connection of function and aesthetics, the center of all our intentions. is a consistent statement of material, structure and color.

The art of sewing

The careful craftsmanship in our in-house confection department creates a work of art on the floor. The tradition of this craft from Ruckstuhl is probably unique in the world of carpets. The fine art of crafting natural fiber carpets requires strong arms and sensitive fingertips, much of this work is still done by hand. With dedication and feeling, the highly qualified employees process the finest bindings into borders, as you can only get from Ruckstuhl.
